People often talk about how busy they are, like it’s something to be proud of. In today’s society, being busy seems to be a status symbol – a state of being one must strive toward. The perception is that if one is very busy, they must be “important”.
Being productive is good, but busy-ness does not always result in productivity. Every hour does not have to have an assigned task. In the hours of what others might consider “downtime” or “laziness”, some of the best ideas come to visit. We often underestimate the value of those blank spaces on the calendar.
The truth is we are all important. Whether or not we choose to run ourselves ragged trying to meet an impossible standard doesn’t change our level of relevance. Who are we proving ourselves to, anyway?
