Thanksgiving Message

Thanks for what?

This year the old quaint holiday seems impossible. We are lost in wars, the human tragedy comes in waves of violence, superstorms from humans and from nature. We have our meal with loved ones, but… we are carrying shock and sorrow to the table, trying not to ruin the conversation with too much reality.

Let’s be grateful to the Peace-makers. They are wading into tides of mindless tribalism that like we haven’t seen in generations. There are Peace-makers walking into the firestorms of fear, searching out and bringing what they can to terrified innocent people hiding in the ashes. How can this be happening?

And a moment of silence for the lovers of the Earth, who are being chased down and killed all over the world. The unarmed wise ones who know that their leadership needs to be without guns. They gather their communities to defend their towns and forests and the life-giving water that is surrounded by paid assassins.

The political position of the Peace-makers is Love. They know in their hearts that people are good and that the goodness has strength that will slow the gunmen, the profit-takers with their poisons, the abusers of the Earth. Where do the peace-makers get this faith in regeneration? Sometimes we can’t see any healing in the constant murders. They must be finding a strong Love in each of us that we are given by the Earth.

Being grateful now in such a dark time is like planting seeds as bullets pierce the sky. But the seeds will stop the bombs. Shame, revenge, money… do they make peace? Love does. The Earth keeps giving us more love. It is native to our bodies because we are made of the Earth. And so we have Peace in us. It’s always there. Love Earth!
