This painting, started in 2018, was originally titled “Shadows on the Sun”. When in 2020 pandemic lockdown, Mazz decided to incorporate it into a 3-part series entitled “Covid-19 Triptych”.
In addition to painstaking geometric drawings, the three paintings feature layer upon layer of hand-mixed, flat and iridescent paints. At various stages in the painting process, Mazz placed his work under various types of lighting, including blacklight, to ensure the achievement of their characteristic “glow”.
