It was a night filled with music and love. On April 22, 2023, Stephen and Kristen Stills put together a star-studded lineup to raise money for another Light Up the Blues for Autism Speaks. Stephen and Neil joined up once again for a blast from the past for their fans. They spun the Time Machine back several decades to the 1960’s and the music of Buffalo Springfield, like “Bluebird,” “For What It’s Worth” and “Mr. Soul”! Stretching back to CSN&Y days with “Love the One You’re With” and “Helpless”!
A guy sitting next to me told me he’d hoped that they would play something from the old days of the Stills-Young Band. I told him to stick around, because whenever these guys got together, anything could happen. Sure enough, the encore was “Long May You Run”! and as they sang it, Neil was right there by Stephen’s side, looking at each other up close, and you could feel the brotherly love between them. They were smiling all the way through!
Speaking of brothers, in a homage to David Crosby, who passed away in January, Graham Nash paid tribute to David by showing a video where Graham Nash and David Crosby had sung “Guinnevere” at the Lincoln Center. The harmony was like a pair of songbirds weaving their songs into one. Neil Young and Stephen Stills had put their past behind them, forgiving mistakes and moving on into the bright future of these lifetime friends. It was beautiful to see this BROTHERLY LOVE at the Greek Theatre in L.A.!
And like all things related to human beings, there were technical and mechanical mishaps, but the overall show was excellent! The audience expressed their LOVE in the applause, shouts, and whistles throughout the show. It was great to see these musicians back out there in the Free World, doing what they do! We are all wishing that LONG MAY THEY RUN! Music is LOVE, after all!
