LIVE VERSION OF DUBLIN WITH PJ
Back in June of 1995 I was visiting my sister in San Francisco. Sitting on her small second-story patio, I could faintly hear music drifting in and out of a slight breeze. Thought to myself that it sounded like Neil Young. Of course the next day I saw in the newspaper it was you and Pearl Jam. Always thought it would be awesome to hear a live version of Mirror Ball, etc. Anyway, I see you plan to have a live version with PJ from Dublin in the next archives. I just turned 72 and hope I’m not running out of time to hear it.
Also I’m the guy who annoyed you in the parking lot at Home Depot/Whole Foods in San Luis Obispo just before covid while you were walking your dog. Sorry about that, but figured it was a once in a lifetime chance.
We are working on that release now

GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN!
Hi Mr Young, I am a 91-year-old woman in Sydney, Australia. My son turned me onto your music later in my life. I heard it’s possible you may come to Australia in your summer. We just watched Tim Pope’s “London” show and were wondering if you could do a similar set with acoustic then electric songs? Then if I fall asleep the loud ones will wake me up!
x love to you,

RELEASE REQUEST
Hello, With the unexpected demand from Bob Dylan fans with the last year’s release of the Dylan/Band1974 tour boxset, I was wondering if you’ve ever considered releasing an entire tour in a CD boxset. Particularly, a release of the incredible four-week Rust Never Sleeps tour in 1978. I know we have a few albums and a movie, but I’d love to hear that entire tour. I attended the Rochester, NY show as a 21-year-old fan that year & it is still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen & It was definitely the loudest! 😉
Thanks for this site. It is, by far, the best of any artist.
Keep on Keeping on, Bob
Thanks Bob

MEET AND GREET $$
Hello Neil!
Any chance of doing a limited “meet & greet” for $$$$ at the two upcoming Toronto shows, Aug. 17 & Aug 19—money going to a fundraiser of your and Daryl’s choosing? I remember Trent Reznor doing this very thing at the same venue years ago to great success. Anyhoo—hope so!
See you in Toronto!!!
Best,
Doug

TALKIN TO THE TREES
I just wanted to say how much I’m enjoying Talkin’ To The Trees. It’s continuing a run of great albums starting with and including Colorado. I’ve read some uninformed chat on the interweb about the personal nature of the lyrics on the first two songs, but the chatterers ignore the lyrics of the other songs on the album and get an incomplete picture. The music on this album is the most accessible of your recent albums. I’d love to hear some of the songs from this album and the more recent Crazy Horse albums played live.
All the best
Neil

HYDE PARK
Hi Neil
Just a quick note to say thanks for a great show at Hyde Park: we loved every moment.
If you find some time on your hands on the Tour Bus or at home and want to watch something, I highly recommend Tales of Resistance | The Battle of the Newbury Bypass | 1996 on YouTube:
the story of some very brave, committed folk fighting to save our countryside against road development and the slaying of natural habitats and woodland.
Probably the most successful direct-action campaign ever in the UK.
At the end of the film a police officer asks a poignant question just before the titles roll:
”Where are we all going, does anyone know?”
Keep up the great music, and spreading the message,
We have to look after the planet for the future of mankind.
As the saying goes, “Mighty Oaks from Acorns grow.”
Save the planet for another day.
Love to everyone
O.J.

GORGE
Why was the 9/5 Gorge show canceled and a new one at a winery in Redmond, WA on 9/5? But today I got an email saying that it was moved to 9/4. Still at the winery in Redmond, WA. Why the changes? We would like to know.
Thx, Steve Schneider

TOUR LOG
Howdy Daryl, Neil and Everybody,
First, I’d like to thank Daryl for the wonderful pic of the Sweden premier outdoor venue–I can say “it rocks.” Someday I’ll go back to see old town in Stockholm again and see the Nobel
Prize museum.
Travels of Dada Poetry, Beat and free verse. Wonderful.
But what happened to the Gorge Concert? Why did you switch venues? My friend Kim is disappointed. When she transferred the tickets to St. Michelle Winery, it was already sold out, because patrons there get first dibs. Was it the food vendors, the sponsors? I know you don’t cancel a venue without good reason.
Anywho, I had fun reading your tales from the road, England and France look to be a good visit, soon, I hope!
Keep us posted!
Stay safe!
Peace, Love and Music!

CAUGHT THE THOUGHT
Neil,
I caught the thought that my head is the event of the season: if you take requests for songs at shows, may I humbly request at Shoreline, our home base, that you consider playing Broken Arrow, Red Sun, Natural Beauty and/or Razor Love?

WORTH A READ
Hello Neil, I was by the Otonabee on the grass in August with betwixt blonde beauty looking down at the river and saw an old railroad track down there.
But I’d met this sexy as hell Russian jew girl five porches down the road I was living in the attic of this old Peterborough home. bats in attic too. just before 9/11. I was a poet and a painter the summer was hot. I’d come out from Edmonton, my brother Craig and I, in Mom’s ’96 Honda Civic. My parents had a house in Edmonton, my Dad selling franchises for Quiznos. My granddad and grammy were still alive at their house in Kitchener Ontario.
I left Ottawa in a new pair of boots and a knapsack in in 1998 July. both me and Craig fresh out of Canadian university. July 1 at the Canadian museum of civilization, where there was the Canada tree made by a young artist from mount A in Sackville made of wooden parts from Canadian writers and artists. There was a pencil twig from Margaret Atwood. Soon after he died in a sauna.
Some days latter I packed it in, left my brother in his place in Hull and set out hitchhiking across Canada. like I said, I had new boots, a hundred bucks, and all my earthly belongings on my back. I put out my thumb on the 417 headed west. Fist car picked me up was a black Crown Vic decked out with high tech on the inside. He was headed to somewhere west of Ottawa.
We had both had wives in Thunder Bay.
First night sleeping next to highway east of North Bay I had to deal with fear of being killed. I found the solution was to give myself to the earth and then I slept.
I crossed the shield on the back of an train out of Thunder Bay with three other vagabonds
howling at the rock and swamp and whitest shining moon.
Arrested in Winnipeg the next morning: the rail cops wanted to see our knives and we all produced one. They smirked at mine because it was so dull and old, my dad’s old Boy Scout knife. We all went our separate ways. In Saskatchewan a guy in a ’69 Chevy Bel Air picks me up; said he used to produce Joni Mitchell.
Ended up on Rainbow Beach Tofino a week latter. Im rambling here. and I’ve gotta take a leak. Tofino in 1999, I meet up with guy who makes and sells inuksuks and theres a rainbow gathering in the wall bran valley and he’s got this beat old Chevette and we head there.
The Hari Krishna hippies are serving breakfast and living in a teepee. And the gathering on an old logging road, cars parked in the ditches. At a little drum circle here’s Kurt Cobain’s spitting image like god’s only son playing the African jembey next to his old brown Plymouth Monarch, but the “rch” is missing and all it reads is “Mona” and then a black helicopter flew overhead.
It was Kurt.
Back in Peterboro two years later, like I mentioned earlier, when 9/11 hit in in the attic room next me was Bobby who had done the circuit said turn on your TV and watch the World Trade Centers being attacked. And fall into their own footprint.
The week before I was in Toronto by Rosedale meeting up with Craig and my sister Altson at Starbucks when a Russian guy comes over and wants to sell me a Rolex Submariner, so I give him $80 for it. Later, Craig and I meet up with a guy who went down to Nashville seeking his fame but had failed and was waiting on his welfare check in a room downtown. We played guitar and he said he’d go to Greek Island and drink himself to death.
Back in Peterborough the next day working on a sign for my sister’s friend’s bike shop, I got bored and went for a drive snd found a big snapping turtle crossing the road so I put a stick in his mouth, which he latched onto, and I put him on the front seat and brought him back to the bike shop. The next day my mom and dad came by and tried to have me admitted to psych ward, but they couldn’t get me, so I ended up back in Peterborough. I went the pawn shop and traded my Rolex for a Jap fender and Roland bass amp.
I hooked it up in the attic room and played, then aI guy from across the road knocked on the door and said he wanted to fuck me in the ass, so I must have sucked pretty bad, so I gave the guitar a nice rest. I loved one night I took a drive, found a road sign, unscrewed it from the post, took it back to the attic, the next day i turned it into a pick guard.
So this sweet little puck girl is was walking down the street and I say, do you want a guitar? And she did, so I gave it to her. I’d been reading the myth of Sisyphus by French existentialist philosopher Albert Camus about the this guy who is condemned to push a rock up a hill only for it to roll back down and repeat for the rest of his life. This is what Camus says is our state as man and the only solution is suicide.
Emma is young and beautiful like a young horse and fucked like mad. We shared the same psychiatrist in town. then she left, went back to O. A week latter I packed up with Roland bass amp in hand, landed at my sister’s, sold the amp at Steve’s on Queen and ran into Emma there.
I was living in a richmans house in Rosedale and cooking at the CBC making love to Emma. Then she says what if our child is black? What would you do? I had no answer. So she gets pregnant and I lose my job—they just shut the restaurant down saying its budget cuts. so I’m without a cent and my girl is pregnant so she wants money for an abortion, but I can’t kill a child. I descend into depression. She moves in with her mom. I’m back at mom and dad’s in Burlington now, and there’s this internet on now. So I find a job up in the Yukon on Kluane Lake and the night before I’m set to leave Emma calls me and I know our child was aborted.
Craig and I fly to Red Deer. He goes to Vancouver and I go to Whitehorse. After the summer I’ve got money, buy a van, and me and Mark, who is Inuit and a dude who wears a poncho and a cowboy hat, we decide to drive down to Vancouver. But we commit a robbery one night along the way for gas money. We again run out of gas in Hope and the two of them take off for Vancouver leaving me broke with my gas empty van, but I’ve got silver dollars my pop gave me back before he died in ’96 so I sell them, fill the tank and head for Van in my van. I land in East Van at Grandview Park on Commercial Drive and there is Mark and Cowboy smoking weed in a nice little circle with the hippies. Times were hard. Cowboy went back north. Mark and I slept in the van. we looked for work at the day labour place. I always got sent out but Mark never did. He figured it was racism on account of being native. I had to agree, but he was always stoned as well.
Craig is over in West Van with his rich girlfriend, and I got a phone call to him and he came down to the park and did not hide his disappointment with me. the next day I got a line cook job at Havana Cafe across from the park.
At Christmas I lost my job. I wandered the streets of Vancouver slowly, then quickly descending into madness. That fucking Iraq War was about to start and there was a war in streets. I had knives pulled on me; I was chased out of an apartment at knifepoint after seeking love with the wrong woman. I started to carry a knife when I went out. I was broke, so I went to the welfare office and got a place. I was living with a junky and her boyfriend and dreaming of making art, but one night I lost it—set out the next morning from the underground garage. I wrote a poem fuck america fuck america fuck america and there on the dumpster was written America is fucked and so are you.
I wandered the streets deeper into madness. I thought a guy was going to stab me, so I stabbed him, then two cops undercover were sitting right there where it happened, so I was covered in blood and so was the other guy and they took me down. I went to jail, got fingerprinted, descending further into madness. I tore all my cut-up clothes off and was naked in the cell and the door opened and three big cops stood there and laughed at me. they closed the door and in greatest despair began banging my head against the cell wall and thought of driving with my granddad in his prized 74 Pontiac LeMans. Then the cell door opened and I was grabbed and pulled naked into a fluorescent-lit room and fastened into a full body restraint while one of the cops videoed the procedure. The next day a nurse opened the cell door. Then I was dressed in a white paper 3M-made suit and stood trial like that.
I was placed in a forensic psychiatric jail. I don’t remember much about details. After eight months I recovered and was sent back into the community.
I met a girl. We got hooked on crack, had a wild time for a while, then we got on a Greyhound and set out for Mexico at Christmas. It was good times. We were in live and getting clean. Down on the bHa drinking cervezas, it was magical. Twenty years latter we are still together, living on Vancouver Island. I’ve got a job driving a taxi 40 hours a week, providing for my wife and our daughter. Praise the Lord is all I can say.
A few years back we saw you on your solo tour that when I got the Archives app, which is probably the internet’s best website. Craig is in the Okanogan with a new wife and a child on the way. At Easter he and Elise paid us a visit and we bought tickets for your show in Deer Park this September. I’m looking forward to seeing you play live. I’ve got an RV lined up and I’m bring AngieRay my daughter so it will be me, Craig, and AngieRay enjoying your beautiful music.
I love you man
I hope all is well with you.

PARIS
A heartfelt “thank you” for the tour but especially for the stunning finale in Paris.
It was great to see you and the Chrome Hearts indoors, there was so much energy in the arena, the Parisienne crowd is a great crowd, it really is….
Everything was so, so good ~ the setlist was sublime (and pretty different to those first two shows we saw in Sweden and Norway). To see/hear Ambulance Blues with the band, surging into Cowgirl … oh my days….
Too many highlights to list, but that unbelievable encore of Hey Hey My My was something I’ll never, ever forget. You played it like someone half your age!
It was a genuine privilege to be there to see it (I had tears in my eyes on the valedictory “rock and roll will never die”). That’s never happened to me before with that song & it was spine-tingling to witness.
So, if there’s room, please consider including that Paris tour closer as the out-track on the new live (Echos?) album. And also, the Bergen Cortez (that I wrote to you about already), if somehow it doesn’t make the grade for the record, please release it as a special “out-take.” All our friends on NYA need to hear it.
Good luck on the homelands tour and I’ll cross everything for another Euro tour in 2026.
Thanks, as ever,
Mark

MINNESOTA STATE FAIR
Hi Neil,
I wanted to say Thank you for posting the Minnesota State Fair concert from 1985 on the timeline. I have always said that was my favorite concert that I have ever attended. Both you and Rufus were in rare form that night. Full moon and all, quite the show!
I had heard rumors that you were thinking about putting out either an album or something on Archives from the Polar Vortex tour. Any truth to that?
Looking forward to seeing you in Chicago next month.

Hi Neil,
I hope you and the band and crew had a wonderful tour through Europe. We had a great trip, although five shows in eight days is not as easy as it used to be. hats off to you guys!
But so glad I could do this again!
Thank you for letting me see you 100 times!
I rocked my plastic front row seat in Stuttgart in celebration until I defied security and decided to stand up after all. Stupid seats!
