BERGEN CORTEZ
Short & sweet this one …
Please would you consider putting up the Mulligan mix of Cortez from Bergen on NYA, even if it’s a one-off special?
Truly that was one of the great live Cortez (electric or acoustic), and it would be so cool to have everyone who visits NYA to be able to hear it in pure mixing desk form.
How about it? (Maybe add the Copenhagen Down By The River to that too!).

WALDBUHNE – BERLIN
Hello Neil,
I’m excited to see you in concert again for the second time (in Berlin; after 2003 in Hamburg). Thanks to the subscription, I was able to rediscover your work after many years of listening to it much less. The overview of all those years, your ideas and spirit, political voice and fun inspire me. So grateful for the opportunity. Last weekend, I played the Timeline when a few friends were there, some who hadn’t heard your songs in a long time, and they were thrilled. So—thank you very much, I look forward to seeing you and your band at the Waldbühne.

Really getting a charge reading your travel log, aye. Grand earth touring must be a rush. Did you cross paths with the fearless leader at the summit, lol. It appears not a whole lot has changed for the people in the last 60 years of the consumer experiment. Oh well dig it, dig it hari hari safe travels all!

COASTAL OUTTAKES
Greetings Neil,
I was wondering if you would consider putting the versions of tracks that were on the first release of Coastal that was removed from sale up as outtakes in NYA. They were withdrawn but many of us would love to hear them.
Wishing you well as always
Trevor

MALDAHIDE CASTLE DUBLIN
“KEEP HER LIT”
Dear Neil,
I hope you are well. Neil, I had the absolute privilege of attending the Malahide gig in Dublin last night. You and the Chrome Hearts were incredible, absolutely electrifying. You guys have a beautiful synergy.
There is a northern Irish saying: ‘Keep her lit’ … hoping you and the Chrome Hearts ‘keep her lit’ for the rest of the tour. Thanks for the unforgettable experience and God bless you.

BBC
Thanks so much for letting tonight’s gig air on the BBC. Though the last C stands for corporation, there are so many there who do the right thing.
So many people are so happy to be able to see the show from home.
My son and I were in Rättvik and Copenhagen last week, and we’ll be watching together tonight.
Dalhalla was a fantasy-like venue—a dream come true to see my favourite artist there—how about the Greek Theatre in Sicily next year 😆?
Crossing my fingers for H.O.G., I’m the Ocean and Cortez … long may you run….

Hey Neil—question: when did you get your gold-top Les Paul? Did you get it the same time you got Old Black or few years later? I really love both guitars.

FIRST FIRE OF WINTER
Dear Neil,
I have followed you since After the Goldrush. I have purchased every album except Lucky Thirteen, Fork in the Road, and a few archive releases. Many times twice. First the LP and later the CD.
My connection with your music has varied over the years. And of course your music has too. Sometimes there was a connection for me and sometimes not.
I just picked up your most recent album, and I’ve got to tell you that it is a very fine album. When I heard First Fire of Winter I had the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I made a very strong emotional connection to the song.
That is why I come back every time you release an album—for that connection. It is a mysterious thing that I can’t explain. I am just happy when it happens. Sometimes the connection is there and it is very powerful, other times it is not.
It is as Mark Twain once said about writing, that I think also applies to to writing and performing music: “The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter. ‘Tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”
Long may you run.

MALAHIDE
Hi Neil. I was at your concert with the Chrome Hearts last night in Malahide. The rain pouring down on our heads while singing along to The Needle and the Damage Done with you was a beautiful and serene moment. It’s nice to really FEEL the rain, instead of cursing it all the time.
I also appreciated the detail of the megaphone microphone during Be the Rain and Sun Green.
With love and respect, Evan.

WILL TO LOVE
Thanks guys for the latest outtake, that sublime Like A Hurricane from the 1992 tour. John O, pretty sure the only previous solo acoustic performance before this one was during one of Neil’s solo sets on the 1976 Stills-Young Band tour. Not that Neil likely remembers doing it, mind … lol.
While we’re talking about outtakes, I love that the original solo recording of Will To Love was put up recently. As nice as it is, the released version with overdubs really takes it to another level. Neil, I know I’ve read that you thought that this was one of the best things you and Briggs did together, and I’ve always loved the song. Can you remember back when you were doing the original solo take whether you could hear or feel what the final version would be like? Did you know at that time where a lot of the overdubs were going to go etc? Or was the extra stuff an afterthought to what was in your mind an essentially finished song?

Peter

FAMILY LIFE
Hi Neil.
My wife and I got a nice surprise at your Dublin gig when we were informed our archive presale tickets meant we had access to the front of the stage.
We last saw you in 2019 in Kilkenny. Now we have a son aged 2.
It was great seeing you again. The rain did it’s best to dampen our spirits but was unsuccessful. Unfortunately my wife felt unwell and I heard the thousands of voices singing along to Old Man and RITFW from the medic tent while my wife was looked after. Quite the experience. It was our 3rd time seeing you and my fourth. Hope to see you again soon. Family life is something indeed.

MALAHIDE CASTLE DUBLIN
Hey Neil,
Just back from a solo trip to see you at Malahide Castle, despite the rain, it was a wonderful gig, my 25th time seeing you live. Another solo trip for me at Hyde Park in two weeks, I’m in the golden circle, the most I’ve ever paid for a concert, but will be worth it.
Loved the setlist from Malahide and would be very happy to hear it again, Feel Your Love, Be The Rain, Sun Green, Looking Forward, Fuckin’ Up, just wow.

MALAHIDE CASTLE DUBLIN
Thoroughly enjoyed your concert in Dublin. The sound you and the band made was sublime. Really good to hear Be the Rain and Name of Love amongst the familiar songs—Name of Love was especially beautiful. I caught your Glastonbury set on the BBC, and TV just can’t do the sound justice, but enjoyed it nonetheless. Throw Your Hatred Down was a great choice of song to squeeze in at the end.
Thank you for continuing to get out there, sharing your music with us and using it to say something about the world today in a way many of your peers don’t bother to do anymore.
See you at Hyde Park for some more!
See you there!

BERGEN CORTEZ
HI Daryl, Neil and Everybody,
Neil, thank you for putting up dispatches from the road, enjoyable, informative and enlightening they are a joy. They remind me of the book entitled, Dispatches, by Michael Herr, but that’s a different journey—one I am sure you will remember—check it out sometime.
Reminiscent also of the book entitled On The Road, by Kerouac, they flow with streams of consciousness and descriptive visions.
I love to visit other countries and compare and contrast our society with theirs. And frankly, it saddens me, because I feel in our haste towards progress, we’ve lost touch with the land, it’s beauty and power.
Looking forward to more dispatches!
May Peace Prevail on Earth!

CYCLING
Dear Neil,
The past two weeks we have been cycling through the Netherlands with your concert as a final destination. It felt so good to have the concert as a great big friendly shadow hanging over our trip (and some shadow was good with this weather). We have been singing a lot of your songs on the bikes through the Dutch nature reserves. Singing to the trees!
Do you like cycling or are we just typically Dutch?
Anyway, I had to cycle 40 kilometer to school through the windy Dutch nature for six years and listened to all of your music almost every day.
How does that feel? You write a song in a specific context and after that people place it in their own context, such as Dutch meadows, but also rainforest and all kind of places in the world?
Thank you for joining me on that endless Dutch cycling tracks every day!
See you in Groningen!

Hi Neil!
Can’t wait to see you in Groningen next week. You’re the one that got me hooked on playing the harmonica! One of my best memories are of taking a ride on my motorcycle and whip out the old harp and play a tune wherever, feels like freedom.
Fingers crossed you’ll play something off Trans, it’s my favorite album.

MALAHIDE CASTLE DUBLIN
Hi,
I was fortunate enough to see Neil in Dublin on June 26. I have watched him perform several times in the past, but this show was fantastic. I want to thank him for still putting so much effort and love into his performances. Both the new and old songs are amazing.
Keep on rockin’! I hope to see him again soon.
Sincerely,
Ray

GLASTONBURY
Hey Neil
How are ya? Good to see you back over here in sunny England (and I’m enjoying your tour diary!)
I just wanted to say thank you so much for allowing your Glastonbury show to be broadcast on TV. I lost my job a few months back so just can’t find the money to make the London show, and of course Glastonbury is a real lottery to get a ticket for anyway before you even know who’s gonna play, so I think a lot of your fans here in the UK really appreciate it, especially those who just can’t get out the house for whatever reason. It was great to see you guys tearing up the stage, those Chrome Hearts fellas can really play.
Did you get a chance to watch any of the other music at Glastonbury before your show?
Keep well and have a great remainder of your tour in Europe/UK!

Hi Neil,
Malahide Castle gig was the first of your visits to Ireland I’ve missed since before 1987.
Was gutted.
Sorry my dude. Few things going on in life at the moment so I couldn’t make it. I heard the gig was fantastic. Glastonbury looked great also.
Next time! Til then I’ll just enjoy my collection and the Archive.
All my best,

ALASKA RR HAT
Neil,
I saw a number of clips from the European Tour and I noticed you are always wearing an Alaska Railroad hat on stage. I’ve been a resident of Alaska for 43 years and an ardent supporter of our Alaskan Railroad. Can you share with us the background of the hat? How you got it and why you wear it? We are very proud of our railroad in Alaska and hope someday, Alaska will be connected to the lower 48 by rail so passengers will be able to experience the beauty of our state with less of an environmental footprint-impact.
Be safe … Joe Ray Skrha, Kenai River, Alaska.
ps: my 96-year-old mom and I will be in the 14th row at Blossom Music Center to see you and the band…

GRONINGEN
Dear Neil,
I would like to thank you for the fantastic concert in Groningen. I’m from Germany myself, but the venue in the Netherlands was simply closer to where I live than the three venues in Germany this year.
The concert in Groningen was absolutely wonderful. The band is great, the weather was perhaps a bit too hot, but the atmosphere was still fantastic.
Many thanks to the entire team.
