SHUFFLE
Hey what’s up? Is there anyway possible you can get a shuffle feature for our fan created playlists very frustrating when you have a 149 song playlist and it starts at number one and does not shuffle … other than that life is great
I don’t like shuffle so we have never had it! Always disliked having my albums jumbled up!!!

OLD WAYS / A TREASURE
Neil,
Been listening to Old Ways and A Treasure recently and completely enamored with the warmth, love, and performances. Which leads me to say I am still totally looking forward to however you decide to curate a release for that era. The possibilities are endless and I hope to hear more soon. There’s so much hokey and down to earth stuff in the lyrics, how much of that was a put on and how much was genuine bliss and gratitude? Either way, always a delight to hear and uplift my mood.
Best

Where do you think Briggs produced “Garage” live Crazy Horse album from 1986 will surface first? Is it tagged for Vol 4?

KRISTEN HERSH
How’re ya doin’, Neil?!
I was wondering, do you dig Kristin Hersh? I ask because I got into Kristin’s music around the same time I started listening to you (the early ’90s.) You and she are my two favourite singer-songwriters, both enduring, unique talents and fascinating people to boot!

THE OLD HOMESTEAD
dear neil
how i love ya so.
think i own multiple copies of everything you’ve released plus piles of good old bootlegs.
Amongst all your incredible music is THE OLD HOMESTEAD CD on Archives 3. It’s probably some of your best stuff. On a par with the 3 Doom trilogy albums
but i basically hate CDs and never stream music.
Ya just have to get this cd out on vinyl … it’ll probably be a double but good god it’ll be incredible.
keep well you beautiful man.
peace n love.

COACHELLA VALLEY
Hey Neil,
Not sure if this might work to contact u and ur team … anyway, I’m an old fan going back to Mr Soul and Butterfield Blues… but learned to love ur songs in the 70s in Germany (where I grew up) my fav album at the time “everybody knows this is nowhere” just as applicable today as it was then.
I immigrated to the U.S. in the late 80s bc I loved the support for creativity and freedom of the pursuit of happiness …
We raised our family near downtown LA. But now we’re in the Coachella Valley and would love to see you and your band out here (we now even have the Acrisure Arena). We can’t make it to the Hollywood Bowl but we know you have many many fans out here…. I hope u could consider doing a gig out here—???
Be well —

PS I play a tiny bit of guitar and my modest warmup is the opening of “The Needle and the Damage Done.”

DON’T BE DISCOURAGED
Neil,
Been here on the Archives from the beginning. Haven’t written in a few years to give others a chance after you were kind enough to respond to earlier letters. I don’t want you to be discouraged by the negativity I see in letters from fans, the issues you’ve had to navigate getting tickets out for your Chrome Hearts tour this year or the illnesses you and Crazy Horse dealt with last year. As fans we ask a lot and there’s an assumption the artist owes us something other than their art or a great show. You’ve given us so much including your personal answers to these letters and your perspective on so many issues of the day here on The Contrarian. We can see how important it is to you that you create NYA to provide music our progeny can enjoy and ponder long after we’re gone. So without going on and on here’s appreciation from a long time fan who is just happy to be on this crazy, endangered planet with you, living in a great but increasing fragile Democracy and glad, as you approach 80, you are still here for us and giving us such fantastic music. Thanks Neil.
Love and gratitude

WILL TO LOVE
Hi Neil,
I always dreamed of hearing Cowgirl In The Sand and Ambulance Blues (both acoustic) live for just once in my life. But I never expected that would happen, since these are old songs, but you did play them (Antwerpen and Amsterdam 2008)! I will never forget those performances, and I was also lucky to have a seat up very front. It was amazing and I am very thankful for those moments you shared with us!
I know you hardly take any song requests, but do know that when you would play Will To Love in Mönchengladbach in July, that will make my day once more! I guess it will not happen, since you never played it live. Any reasons for that?
Hope to see you in good health in July,
Jan
Thanks Jan

CANADA VS USA
Lifelong fan … thanks to my dad and his father too.
It’s killing me wondering what your thoughts are on the Canada vs USA war? Tariffs and economics aside, real people, good people are being attacked in so many horrible ways.
As a Canadian, i’ve always felt it was my duty to stand up and be vocal to protect and preserve the freedoms i’ve been so blessed to be given … to protect those less fortunate.
You have always been an inspiration to me and so many others … as much as I would love to hear you announce a cancellation of your USA concert venues … I am realistic that you probably wont ;( … too political for you right?
Could you at least put out a warning to your concert attendees that the USA is no longer a safe place for anyone that is not a supporter of ‘maga.’ Innocent people are being detained.
Come on man, one Canadian to another. Your fame and voice has an impact. Look within yourself and join the fight to protect freedom … and Canada (including Omemee) … unless you’re ok with it being a 51st state.
Say something … anything … please. My sanity and faith in humanity is waiting.
Sincerely, and with no ill intent.

POLAND
Hi Neil,
In the wake of cancelled concert in Ukraine, have you thought about playing a show in Poland? It’s completely safe and welcoming, it could be your first concert there, in the “Free World”—the symbol of the fall of the Eastern communism. There are millions of Ukrainians who live here because of the war that we welcome and help for years now. That could be a great massive outdoor show. Please consider it!
If you wish your management can contact me, maybe I could help with this.
Greetings from Poland
Michal
Thanks Michal

ROCKING THROUGH THE GENERATIONS
NEIL – Rocking Through the Generations
Hello Neil,
My 18th Neil Young concert is coming up soon! This time, with the Chrome Hearts, in Groningen, the Netherlands, on July 1st.
Your music has spread through my family, and it brings me immense joy that this time, alongside me, Rob (68), and my wife Jacqueline (68), our children Lars (39), Thom (36), Roanne (31) with her partner Wouter (33), and perhaps even our grandchild Neil (!, 6 months old then), will all be there to experience this special moment together.
What a pleasure it is to share this with you! Give it your all, Neil—surprise us!
Best wishes from the Zuidinga family, Netherlands.
LOVE TO THE ZUIDINGAS!

KANSAS
Electric Kansas—Has Kansas ever been played live like the version on Dume? Could that be a song that finds its way into the Chrome Hearts’ repertoire?
That’s a good idea!

There has never been a live performance of Kansas with a band. It was played twice during the solo 1999 tour and 6 times during the 2007 & 2008 tours. 3/23/99 at the Wiltern Theater is available as a concert on the website’s timeline and 12/10/07 Philly is included in the Trunk Show movie.
Thanks
John H.
LOVE LETTERS
Dear Neil,
It’s hard to sum our love and appreciation for what your music and lifework means to us. Us individually, us together, as a couple who connected at first from the effect that meant knowing the depths of your sound. And we bet that these are your usual letters (more like love letters haha). So we’ll try to make our best.
At our first date Magda came with her Tonight’s The Night’s shirt, and we watched Rust Never Sleeps over a bottle of wine, which caused our first skin to skin encounter; we held hands when we heard Like a Hurricane.
And from then, it’s been nothing but love, music, company.
We can spend hours talking about our history with your records, Dani specially (he is also a performer and songwriter). He’s 41 (she’s 29) and grew up listening to his father’s personal “Neil Young Collection” (he is a great fan of yours, also a musician). In his house there were records, VHS, cassettes, vinyls, various books and bootlegs. Almost every Neil Young thing he had found.
His family has many memories traveling to Patagonia, in the south of their country, Chile, while listening to Harvest Moon, which became the sound of that trip. A lovely sound for sure….
In one of those family trips, a live version of Like A Hurricane sounded and Dani suddenly felt something strong, so strong that afterwards he wanted to go through all his father’s collection. That year, he started playing guitar along those records, being just 11 years old. Nowadays he does music, as a job, being your music a great if not his greatest influence.
Magda on her side, became very attached to your albums after her mother passed on 2018. And it made total sense. Life changed and she needed to feel safe, so your records did that.
We’ve been together for almost two years now.
And we’re traveling to Stuttgart, Germany, on July 8th, to see you for the first time. The opportunity arose after Dani’s band got a deal near Cologne, not that far.
It isn’t easy, specially coming from Chile, but we’re really aware that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
If you ever feel like coming to Chile, you’re more than welcome in our home, and we can take you to see the beauty of nature here.
Best of luck on this tour, all the love, health and rock and roll. See you in July.
With all our love,
Magdalena Rubio
Daniel Hohmann.
Thanks to you both!
With love,
Neil
TIMELINE CONCERTS
Hi Neil
Thank you so much for adding the Stray Gators show at Cincinnati in 1973 to the Timeline Concerts. It was great to hear a show from the Time Fades Away tour with Kenny Buttrey on drums. I actually prefer it to the Tuscaloosa show included in the Archives 2 release.
Is there any chance of this show (or any other from that tour) being released on CD/download or is Time Fades Away 2 dead in the water?

INSTRUMENTS / CANADA DESK
Appreciating the new sections: Neil’s Instruments with Larry Craig’s detailed account, and Canada Desk with background on Musk and two stories with very spooky details of detention and interrogation. Personally, I won’t be going to the States any time soon. Nothing to hide and I do wish to see my friends and good people there, I simply do not want to see those border guards and have any interaction with them.
Am curious who wrote the unsigned intro to the Canada Desk.
Much looking forward to your show in TO. Even more so knowing a bit about those guitars.

MILWAUKEE
Just got tickets to your Milwaukee show at the end of August using the pre-sale code. The process was seamless. Thanks!
Since you’ll be in the Chicago/Milwaukee area for a few days in August, you may want to check out the Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois—about an hour or so west of Chicago. Here’s a link.
Looking forward to your show this August. Your shows are always great as I recently saw you last year at the NOLA Jazzfest and way back in 2019 at the first Polar Vortex show in Milwaukee.
Keep Rockin!

I have managed to visualize the connections between you many albums. It shows all albums, the contributors and links to the next album they worked on. CANADA FLAG
Hi Neil:
The red and white maple leaf flag was adopted February 15 1965, I’m sure you remember. I think it would be cool to include it on the website timeline. I was almost eight years old at the time and thought everything was great. Did you have strong feelings at the time?

DIGGING THE ARCHIVES
It’s been a while since I wrote, but wanted you to know I’m still here and still digging the archives. Over the years that I’ve been a member (since day one of memberships) I have been experiencing gradual hearing loss. I’m totally deaf in my left ear and need to use a hearing aid in my right, so while I read everything that gets posted about sound quality, I never really get to experience it. Yet I still love to know that you are out there fighting the fight for quality whether we want it or not. Similar to my love of the quality you try to protect, even though I can’t hear it or appreciate it, I read today the story of Larry Craig’s journey with Old Black, and while I have no musical abilities and understand nothing of getting a sound from your heart to your fingers to the strings to an amp, I was enthralled. It means so much to me that you care so much about giving us your true vision in all things. I love you as an artist because of the care you have for your fans. We might not understand it, or be able to hear it, but we can all feel it in every note you play.
Thanks for sharing your heart and love of the music Neil.
