LINCVOLT JACKET
Hi Neil, Daryl and all at NYA,
Last night I took in Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch at the Granada Theater—old theater, with killer sound—in downtown Santa Barbara and they were stellar. At break, I went down to the mixing board to thank the engineer who was mixing, and walking in front of me was a guy wearing a LincVolt jacket. I looked in the store on NYA and didn’t find it. Was it a special edition? Glad LincVolt is back on the road. Roll on….
Peace, Love and Music!
And a touch of resistance!

Thanks Mike
I’ll check and see if we could get more

OCEANSIDE COUNTRYSIDE
Neil thoroughly enjoying Countryside/Oceanside basically because of my cousin playing the fiddle on a few of your songs. Nathan is a legend to us fellow Cajun French people in South Louisiana (he grew up in the country in nearby Eunice Louisiana). As a small boy he was at our yearly Boucherie (livestock slaughter- made sausage and boudin & distributed all the meat to our family members) and family get-togethers. Always brought his fiddle. He also loved my grandfather’s homemade whiskey. At the time I knew he played in Nashville and it was when I was a big fan of yours that I discovered he played on your album, Comes a Time. First time I saw him play with you was at the World’s Fair in New Orleans ’84. He was a kind, jolly man with as you sang once had a heart of gold. Love the version of Dance Dance Dance
I’m thinking your cousin must have been Rufus Thibodeaux! He was so great and a wonderful man. That’s him on the inside cover with Zeke
Thanks

HYDE PARK
Hi Uncle Neil,
I hope yourself, Daryl and the family are all keeping well and you are all looking forward to the Spring and Summer months.
Talking of Summer, I am beyond excited that myself and my friends have secured tickets to see you at Hyde Park in London. Great supporting lineup too.
I wish I could also be at Glastonbury but tickets are like gold dust and I sadly I didn’t get one for this year. I saw you there in 2009 and it was a truly magnificent night, I hope you have another fantastic night at this years event.
With Hyde Park in mind, I thought it would be fun to compile a setlist which consists of songs—that up to this point—you have never performed live. I based it on standard 17-song set.
What do you think? It would be great to hear some of these songs make their live debuts this year.

LAKEFIELD
Good evening Mr. Young,
I’m really excited for your upcoming show in Lakefield!
Anyways, I was wondering what your time was like living/growing up in Pickering (Durham Region) for a bit? From getting bit by the “music bug” to playing the plastic ukulele, then eventually gravitating towards the guitar years down the road. As someone who has grown up around there, I’ve always been interested in that part of your musical upbringing.
All the best to you,
Davyd deHaan

TURNING POINT
Dear Mr. Young
We are reaching a turning point in human evolution. There is a growing awakening of our collective consciousness. Unfortunately, societally, we are also experiencing a strong push back from the collective unconscious. But let me get the fanboy stuff out of the way first—I am a lifelong fan of your music. Aside from having a large collection of both your albums and CD’s, I have also seen you in concert many times both with and without CSN. I was an early investor in your fundraising campaign for PONO—I am the proud owner of #131 of 500 of the PONO players signed by yourself and Crazy Horse. I am grateful to you for all the hours of enjoyment I have had listening to your music over the decades. I am grateful that you have put your talents behind so many great causes. You also played a small, but significant, role in one of my first awakenings into the more spiritual side of life. My first ‘aha moment’ came from something you said about your song writing experience, and how the music just “came to you.” Having been raised by atheist parents, and having pursued a graduate degree in biological sciences, I was heavily grounded in the physical world for much of my life. But my interest in the traditional spiritual philosophies of enlightenment had been piqued by your comment. Years later, still largely believing only in the physical reality we experience with our five senses, I came across researchers of leading edge theories in both quantum physics and human biology and how these fields supported much of what is presented in many traditional spiritual philosophies. At this point I was hooked and have since taken a deeper dive into this part of my humanity. I have hope for a path forward in our human evolution. In light of the current state of the world, and the negative impact that the collective unconscious is currently having on society, I have decided to take action. I believe we are at a turning point in human history, a moment of great evolution in human consciousness. “Big Change is coming, it could be bad and it could be great”. I have recently posted a website that I hope, in some small way, will help to propagate the ideals of peace, love, joy, harmony and compassion and will aid in tipping the scales toward the ‘great’ side of the equation. I have embedded a link on my website to your “Big Change” video that you posted on Youtube. I would love if you took a look at my website (in particular the “Our Message” page where I embedded your video) and I hope you approve of my use of your video. I would appreciate any feedback you might have.

AFTER WRITING
Dear Neil:
Please forgive me if you already answered this question.
How do you feel after writing and/or recorded a great song? Songs like I’m the Ocean, Chevrolet, Pocahontas, et al.
Do you step back and say “That’s mighty fine?” Or “dang! where did that come from?” Or is it hard for you to assess songs’ quality after they’re freshly written or recorded? Or are you already itching for the next song? Can we judge how you feel about various songs based on the frequency that you perform them live? (Yay Sugarmtn.org for compiling this data!)
Keep on rockin’ in the free world! Dan Weiss
PS Do you plan any shows in the DMV? (That’s District, Maryland Virginia to the unhip.) Richmond VA seems to be the closest venue, but it’s a schlep for us senior citizens.
PPS Is there any way for people to sell unwanted tickets for LESS than face value? That’d be of great help to retirees and teenagers.
My songs come and go. My shows are the same way.
Dan, I wish the best for you.
As I look outside, I know there is more to this
Thanks

VICAR STREET
Hi Neil,
Will Live At Vicar Street make it onto Vol. 4 or will we have to wait for Vol. 5? Audio or film or both? Seems odd that the audio has been available for a long long time on iTunes and Amazon Music as a ‘virtual’ album but has never made it onto NYA.

COASTAL FILM
Hey Neil!
Hope you’re doing well. really looking forward to Coastal film. It will be my son’s first time in a movie theater. He was with me at the Berkeley show, so we’re hoping for some fun scenes from the Greek.
A few related questions:
What to you is the difference in approach/selection between Before and After and Coastal (as I think they both come from the same tour)?
Daryl chose the songs and performances based on what she saw through her lens
Your friends Pearl Jam have been releasing entire tours on CD/Digital for years now. Have you ever considered doing this? Why/why not? Personally i can see both good/bad in this, and maybe you figure you’ll get around to those tours eventually in the Archives. I’m certainly hopeful that Mirror Ball/Sleeps With Angels era tours/outtakes show up, given that you’ve started playing them again (Thanks for that, by the way!).
Mirror Ball tour is coming to the archives V 4, as is Mirror Ball in vinyl!
Bob Dylan has been releasing these Copyright Extension albums to protect against piracy/bootlegs (I believe). Have you considered this? I’m curious why he seems to be the only one doing this.
We do that in limited releases..
Years ago, I attended a screening in NYC hosted by you and Jim Jarmusch. I asked if there were any other musicians you were interested in filming. You simply said No and we moved on to my other question (always have two ready, I learned that from Edward Albee). What I would have liked to say is that I really appreciate your choices as a director, especially as they’re shaped by your experience as a musician, and would enjoy seeing you work on something where you weren’t the subject, which I imagine is a challenge if not a downright conflict. Obviously Willie Nelson would be a fantastic choice, but I’m sure there are many others, both in the music world and beyond, that would benefit from your unique sensibility behind the camera.
Take care, be safe, love earth.
Ethan

LAKEFIELD
Hey Neil,
Just wondering if the solo show in Lakefield is still a go? Been watching the Contrarian non-stop for updates. Live in Belleville and am really hoping to get tix for my son, his girlfriend, and myself. He recently moved to Cordova Mines (between Marmora and Havelock). Don’t see him as much now that he’s getting older and would love to have the opportunity to pick him up a the way to Lakefield to see you. Were in the pit for your last CH show in Toronto and was one of the highlights of my life seeing my 20 yo kid belt out the words to all of your songs at his first Neil show. Guess he didn’t have a chance though after being inundated with your tunes since birth. He does have good taste. First show I took him to was the Sadies in Ptbo when he was 13. He couldn’t take his eyes off Travis’ guitar work. Has been a huge fan ever since Anyway, sorry for my rambling but just don’t want to miss a shot a tix so this dad can spend some more time with him as he gets older. I’m sure you can relate. Thanks for everything over the years Neil!
Peace,
Brad

HANK TO HENDRIX
Neil! First time I saw you was 93 in Austin at Frank Erwin Center (Dino Jr and Blind Melon opened). My high school history teacher gave extra credit to students who went to “cultural events” and I convinced him to give me extra credit if I went to your show, haha. YOU ARE A CULTURAL EVENT, MY MAN! It was amazing and I haven’t looked back since. I saw you three times last year (I live in LA now), The Greek LUTB benefit, The Roxy and the San Diego show. Looking forward to more this year (waiting for those hideous “platinum” prices to drop for the Hollywood Bowl, but have my LUTB ticket for the Greek next month).
Anyways, since I’m a die hard fan I wanted to share with you a cover my power trio band did some years ago of HANK TO HENDRIX. It’s one of my favorite songs but I always believe you should never cover a song unless you bring something new to it, so instead of acoustic it’s rocked out Crazy Horse style, complete with a big ol guitar solo. I hope you dig, my brother. Much love from LA.
Thanks I t’s great! What a version. I might try that myself!!!!

BACK CATALOG
Dear Neil,
After such a long and storied career, do you find yourself rediscovering and appreciating songs from your back catalogue in new ways? I’ve noticed that you’ve been rotating songs like I’m the Ocean and Prime of Life into your sets lately—two of my absolute favorites. I’d love to hear about how that process works. What draws you back to certain songs at different times?
I really hope those songs stay in the setlist when I get to see you in Dalhalla this June. I’m looking forward to the tour a lot!
Wishing you all the best,
Jonas

Elbows Up to Newspaper Boy
Hey Neil,
You brought back a lot memories of my youth with your Newspaper Boy message. Your dad was my favourite sports columnist that I looked forward to reading. First I believe in the old Toronto Telegram and later on when he moved over to the Globe and Mail. I remember seeing him in the stands in the late 70’s during Blue Jays games at the old Exhibition stadium with a small silver typewriter on his lap, typing away the next days sports column or working on a book. Great memories!
It’s hard to believe the present state today with an American president threatening our sovereignty. I have many other family and friends who are American as well , upset as to where we are going.
Canada is not for sale and as our hockey hero Gordie Howe would say, “Keep your elbows up!”
LOVE EARTH,
Keefer
CANADA is GREAT!! Can you imagine any Canadian voting the way MAGA Americans do? The whole idea is a joke, just like the guy who’s telling it.

WHITE SCHOOL BUSES?
Its Les from Stella Blue. I know its been over 40 years, but our last conversation still bugs me. It was on one of those white school buses you were talking about taking on tour and I was shit faced drunk. I said things I regret and I just wanted to say Im sorry. It was a shitty way to end a friendship.
Les,
No problem!
