Collaborative research between Host Defense's team and Washington State University has been published in Nature’s Scientific Reports! Mycelium extracts of polypore mushrooms (Reishi and Amadou) have been shown to confer an immune benefit to bees. This research provides an actionable solution against the stressors threatening bee populations and, in turn, food biosecurity around the world. We’re proud to continue our work in the field of applied mycology to help people …

Sugar maples rely on consistent snow cover to thrive, and climate change is threatening that.

Maple syrup is a food that you might have to describe to your great-grandchildren because they won't be able to try it themselves. As climate change reduces the amount of snow in the northeastern forests of North America, where sugar maples grow, it will negatively affect the trees' ability to grow and …

By Paul Stamets, mycologist

Sometime in the 1980s, microscopic mites that had been afflicting honeybees outside the United States found their way to Florida and Wisconsin and began wreaking havoc across the country. These parasites have invaded and decimated wild and domestic bee colonies. Along with other dangers facing bees, like pesticides and the loss of forage lands, the viruses these mites carry threaten the bees we rely on to pollinate many of the fruits, …

TRUMP ROLLBACKS ON ENVIRONMENT

When the Trump administration laid out a plan this year that would eventually allow cars to emit more pollution, automakers, the obvious winners from the proposal, balked. The changes, they said, went too far even for them.

TRUMP’S WINNERS- BIG OIL

But it turns out that there was a hidden beneficiary of the plan that was pushing for the changes all along: the nation’s oil industry.

The Arctic has been warmer over the last five years than at any time since records began in 1900, and the region is warming at twice the rate as the rest of the planet, scientists said Tuesday.

The rising air temperatures are having profound effects on sea ice, and on life on land and in the ocean, the scientists said. The changes can be felt far beyond the region, especially since the changing Arctic climate …

WASHINGTON — A major scientific report issued by 13 federal agencies on Friday presents the starkest warnings to date of the consequences of climate change for the United States, predicting that if significant steps are not taken to rein in global warming, the damage will knock as much as 10 percent off the size of the American economy by …

WE have to take care of this world. WE can't wait any longer. WE need to stop using fossil fuels. Get behind the green new deal. WE are running out of time. Stop being distracted by Reality TV shows in the White House.
Climate Change is what Reality looks like.

The mud slides are coming. The rain is coming. The timing is all off. The rain could have saved California. Now it is coming to …

Life everywhere is affected by these fires. Residents of Malibu have brought their animals to the beaches for safety, shelter and companionship.

California is vulnerable-not because of poor forest management as DT (our so-called president) would have us think. As a matter of fact this is not a forest fire that rages on as I write this. We are vulnerable because of Climate Change; the extreme weather events and our extended drought is part of …

Maybe its time to think about the kids.

California Sunset, going down in the West. All the colors in the sky kiss another day goodbye. It might be a good idea to focus on Climate change as an issue. It is the biggest one we face.

We, as usual, have been distracted. We really need to see what is happening. Read the New York times today and see what the scientists are predicting. Earth in …

No mention of GMOs

USING BIOTECH PLAYBOOK TO MISINFORM CONSUMERS

Cornucopia Institute.

by Stacy Malkan

For anyone who wonders why consumers aren’t inspired to trust the GMO industry, consider this bizarre statement from Impossible Foods Chief Communications Officer Rachel Konrad in defense of the Impossible Burger, a veggie burger made more meat-like via genetically engineered yeast.

Konrad was upset by a June 27 Bloomberg article Is it too early for fake meat? that …

US, with the so-called President and his Senator Lindsay Graham, plus fellow climate deniers cheering him on, chooses short term greed over long term existence for people of Earth.

Headlines from New York Times 9-11-18.

Over population is becoming our normal experience. Growth is our way of life. Sustaining it can not and will not happen forever.

Sure, it's hard to tell a new family to limit the number of children they have biologically, and that if they want a bigger family, opt to adopt the rest. It's hard to tell anyone what to do with such personal life decisions. It doesn't seem right. It's also difficult to understand how …

Later in life, we make love again, with death in the area somewhere.  Our love is like flying across a vast breath-taking landscape with our longer life within us, and we know that death has something to do with the power of our love.  So we are respectful toward death, like he’s an awkward friend at the party.  Meanwhile, we have desire, we have this pleasure, we have this beautiful land open …

When do we believe in climate change? When our legs are on fire and waves are breaking through the window.

When will we start believing what the scientists say, that we’re sliding into Extinction? Maybe somewhere in the Irma-Maria-Florence-Michael-Malibu-Paradise parade of agony – we felt the presence of mass death.

Most of the USA citizens are in the camp that treats the Earth like it’s a machine. This is our generally held view since the …

The star we are following is slowing down

Over a flock of sea-birds that shriek like they’re having sex

There’s an old barn circled by muddy animals - they seem to expect us

We follow the quiet beasts into the straw and warm smells

A weary young couple is staring into a feeding box that glows

Is there a child in this gray wood cradle?  We peer over the …

Be with us today.

Give us the strength

So we can leave here and fire that CEO God

- that made us the chosen people,

- that made us follow that GPS Fossil Fuel pillar of fire across the desert

- and promised us that he would kill the beasts, keep us from the wilderness

- and kill the natives when we got to the promised land.

Please….we’re ready to go sideways now

We’re ready …

Daryl Hannah has made a crucial beautiful film. In the potent eco-system of Neil Young and the Promise of the Real she weaves a tale, and plants some non-GMO seeds in the soul! It is poetry, It’s magic. Earthalujah!

Her magical film - lots of sumptuousness and cleverness and wonderful eccentrics and of course the music - but the beauty of where they live is what got to me.  Of course they live there, …
