America’s past is a complicated one. So is Her future. Throughout all eras of the history of the United States, events took place that were unfathomable to its residents, and to the rest of the world. Things happened that people didn’t think they could ever recover from. Some didn’t.
Through each period the country has carried on, chronically tender from some wounds, but strengthened by many of its mended scars. The reason for America’s resiliency cannot necessarily be traced to its leaders. Most of the credit for Her strength goes to those who live inside her borders.
There is a saying that goes something like, “Men in work clothes built this country; men in suits destroy it”. The vast majority of America’s population are not lawmakers or CEOs. They are ordinary people. Good people. People who want the best for themselves and others. People who want peace, safety, and prosperity. They go to work every day and keep the country going through financial downturns, natural disasters, health crises, and threats of war. They never stop. They have to keep it all going. They’re not perfect, but every one of them has a life and a dream. America is truly the home of the brave.
No matter who is in charge, the ordinary people will keep things going and keep hope alive.
