Hitchhiker was recorded one night at Indigo Studio, high in the mountains above the Pacific Coast. David Briggs was at the board as I sat in a small room with my guitar, my friend Dean Stockwell, and played all the songs on this album.
It was always meant to be a solo album and I wanted continuity, a feeling you were in a place with me and I was singing these songs to you.
The year was 1976 and I had a lot of new songs to play. This is a record I will never forget making and I am so fulfilled by the fact that it was finished and now is available. It is not a commercial record. It’s a special record of songs that were on my mind that night, as I played for Dean and David.
Hitchhiker was a labor of love. It stands for the way David and I made records.
