A Message from Neil

Timeline Concert Audio Process

Prior to 1974 all audio recordings were done in a recording truck. We either have 1/4” analog tape or audio cassette. From 1974 to 1981, in addition to any recording truck, there were also recordings made of the PA mix at FOH, primarily audio cassette. Beginning in 1982, digital recording was introduced – F1s then DAT. In 2007 we began recording to hard drive. So any show prior to 2007 needs to have the audio tape transferred to high res digital for you to enjoy it from NYA. Technical flaws that can be fixed are addressed. Very moderate mastering is applied: level correction and EQ. The mastered audio file is then sent to John O for his ingestion process, and then you can access it on NYA’s Timeline.

The same process applies to out takes from all albums before they are offered to you.
