It was another great night of live music at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, California. The event was Light Up The Blues, the 4th annual fundraiser event for a great cause: Autism Speaks. Held on May 21, 2016, the event was hosted by Stephen Stills and his wife Kristen. Stephen’s son Chris performed with his band. Little Oliver “Ollie” Stills played bongo-style drums during their songs… and he was only about 9 years old! Neil auctioned off one of his played harmonicas (DNA included!) that night along with a few signed guitars! I wished I could afford the harmonica!! Jakob Dylan’s band played their hit “One Head-light” and another tune, before The War on Drugs amazed us all with “Lost in the Dream,” followed by “Eyes to the Wind.” When Neil Young came out, he opened with “Heart of Gold” then he played “Thrasher” (a big surprise!) from Rust Never Sleeps on his 12-string guitar. Then he switched back to his 6-string for “Out on the Weekend” from Harvest. Stills joined him for “Human Highway,” and then they broke loose with “Mr. Soul.” When Neil put on Old Black, he said, “Anything can happen now!” Then they followed it up with another Buffalo Springfield hit written and sung by Stills called “For What It’s Worth.” The grand finale was Neil’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” WOW! What a night of great music for a really great cause !! !!
