FROM THE LIFE OF NEIL YOUNG

“Old Man”

By Victoria Cavaleri

I am reminded this day that: a little love and affection, with or without you will
make the world a better place. Thanks, Neil.

“Old Man”
Written by Neil Young
Old man, look at my life, I’m a lot like you were Old man, look at my life, I’m a lot like you were Old man, look at my life Twenty-four and there’s so much more Live alone in a paradise That makes me think of two Love lost, such a cost Gives me things that don’t get lost Like a coin that won’t get tossed Rolling home to you Old man, take a look at my life, I’m a lot like you I need someone to love me the whole day through Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that’s true Lullabies, look in your eyes Run around the same old town Doesn’t mean that much to me To mean that much to you I’ve been first and last Look at how the time goes past But I’m all alone at last Rolling home to you Old man, take a look at my life, I’m a lot like you I need someone to love me the whole day through Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that’s true Old man, look at my life, I’m a lot like you were Old man, look at my life, I’m a lot like you were

Neil wants us to look again and listen again to Love. He wants our love to lead us into each living situation. He wants us to feel that Love is a material, a practical thing, a language. Love breaks a human experience into prismatic colors, so that for a moment the old laws are overwhelmed, and we have loving choices. Neil is a teacher, and he gives us lots of demonstrations. His songs are a triptych through vignettes that he has lived. Often we encounter several stories in a single song, concentrated into each short stanza of four or six lines.

The role of grandparents is vital to the salvation of love on Earth. They serve as custodians of love and wisdom, nurturing these essential qualities in their grandchildren. By teaching that life is fragile and that love must be at the center of everything we do, they help create a more compassionate and wise generation. To save Earth, we must love one another and recognize that wisdom is a continuous process. Grandparents, with their unique position and perspective, play an irreplaceable role in this endeavor, ensuring that the legacy of love and wisdom endures for generations to come. Cavaleri
