In 1966, Neil and I lived at Commodore Gardens, walking distance from the Hollywood Bowl. We thought those days would never end. Later, when Neil wrote songs about a girl who left him, friends said it wasn’t me. But I searched the words anyway. Even if he believed I didn’t love him, I knew I had—and his songs gave me courage, a light in the darkness I was living.
