CONTINENTAL TOUR

Hi Neil,

This extensive pro-shot footage of your show with the Electric Band in Sydney, Australia, from Jan 23, 2009 on the Continental Tour, has suddenly shown up on YouTube, posted I think by the original director or at least someone closely involved with the network Channel [V].

I don’t think anyone I know was fully aware of its existence and I just wonder if you are. Maybe they have the whole show. You guys were really cooking. Could be a good candidate for Archives Vol. 5, although it would be nice to see it sooner on Movietone. I have begged the director to look for more and to get in touch. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

SUGGESTION

You should have Jim Jarmusch’s band Sqürl open for you in NYC. Not really a question, more of a suggestion.

BRIAN WILSON

Hi Neil,

Did you ever cross paths with Brian Wilson? I enjoyed a few brief conversations with him during the summer of ’84, while lifeguarding at the Colony, where he was staying. He was a genuinely kind man. I’d love to hear your thoughts on his music and talent.

Best,
JW

LOVE EARTH TOUR 2025

Hi Neil~

Happy touring. I am certain that you will bring your shining light to all of your fans as they listen to your music. I have observed how the music just pours out of your heart and soul, as the audience is captive to your presence on stage.

You are a gifted and talented human, with a heart of gold. Thank you for sharing the gift and love of your music. It touches my soul and so many others.

Much love,
Linda

BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD

Hey hey, Neil

So I was recently perusing eBay and stumbled upon a snazzy Buffalo Springfield concert ticket from January 26,1968 at UC Irvine and just couldn’t resist adding it to my humble collection.

I looked up information about this particular show and found a few mentions of a backstage fight between you and Stephen Stills. Drummer Dewey Martin said it happened after the performance and he described the fight as “furious,” which seems to indicate that the altercation went beyond a mere verbal spat and into something physical. Obviously, I have questions. Do you remember this fight and what led to it? Was it common for the guys in the band to mix it up from time to time? And were you the toughest dude in the rock ‘n’ roll community at the time? In other words, if Buffalo Springfield were a hockey team, would you be categorized as “the goon”?

Curious in Clawson,
David

AFTER THE TOUR

Dear Neil,

After your show in Los Angeles on September 15, would you consider swinging back east to play the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, NJ, or The Mann Center in Philadelphia, PA? The weather is beautiful in late summer and early fall—and you always sell out here!

God bless you, Neil Young!
Your friend,
Richard J. Oliva

Thanks Richard

4 WAY STREET TECHNICAL ERROR

Hi Neil, some time ago you answered a question from Stringman concerning a possible resolution upgrade of 4 Way Street. You then answered that 4 Way Street was recorded in low res CD quality. This must be a slip of the mind, because digital (16 bit) recording started in 1978, so much later. Therefore, could you check again that a resolution upgrade is or isn’t possible?

Greetings from Germany and see you soon,
Jan

TALKING TO THE TREES

Hi Neil!

I just wanted to say how much I’m enjoying Talkin to the Trees! What a lovely album! Reminds me of the first time I heard Freedom and Harvest Moon, so it must be good, right?! The Chrome Hearts are a wonderful band with a really nice feel. The production is great too. Warm and clear!

Sadly, I don’t feel up to attending big festivals and hectic travelling, so I won’t be seeing you on tour. But I wish you a great summer and a triumphant tour. Be safe, everyone!

I look forward to absorbing the new album over the coming weeks. You have blessed us with yet another treasure!

OLD GROWTH

Hi, I have an old growth Maple Tree from Neil Young’s old house in Winnipeg on Grosvenor. We are a tree recycling company that manufactures furniture from historic old trees. I would like to get Neil a guitar blank from this tree or maybe some furniture? Given the release of Talkin’ to Trees it’s perfect timing.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks Mike

RAZOR LOVE

Hey Neil,

Did you record the “Razor Love” with the Harvesters? You did it live a few times in ‘84. Any chance we could hear one of these?

Love to you,
Jake

We do have it and will take a look at when we get home.

LOTTA LOVE

Hello Neil, I noticed here on NYA that Poncho now has a songwriting credit on “Lotta Love.” I am interested to know what his writing contribution to that song was. It has always been a favorite of mine.

Thanks,

YOUNG SHAKESPEARE

Hi all,

This is Gerhard writing from Germany. I just watched the Young Shakespeare movie. This has a very special meaning for me as I have seen this first time probably in 1971 on German TV as part of a “Swing in With Neil Young” movie done by a Dutch person (the cameraman). I guess it was a Sunday afternoon, my parents were out and I sat in front of the TV with my tape recorder and microphone in my hand recording the music. It was the starting point for me to play the guitar and Neil’s songs, and I heard the music from this particular gig all my life thru. So this is why it has a very special meaning for me and I still enjoy listening.
Tell Me Why is one of my absolute favorites. It is such a dense performance. Some time ago I bought a Martin D41 (could not really afford the D45 …) and when playing the songs now I can somewhat feel the vibrations of those old long gone days. Certainly I do have the Young Shakespeare pack now, no need for my old recordings though they still exist….

Thanks to all who contributed to this movie and to featuring this again. And thanks to Neil for his great music.

Love & peace,
Gerhard

Thanks Gerhard
I will listen again

SINGING WITH LINDA

Hey Neil—

One of my favorite things on earth is the sound of you and Linda Ronstadt harmonizing … it sounds like nothing else in the world.

Are there more outtakes of you two? Would love an album just compiling your favorite cuts together.

Thanks for everything.

(New York January 10, 2014) is fantastic. It sounds as if we’re in Carnegie Hall with you and the audience.

Love the stories and intros as much as the selection of songs.

LOVE EARTH TOUR 2025

Dear Neil,

I just saw some videos from the Sweden concert and you guys are sounding great. Also, what an interesting venue. I love seeing the Greendale mic stands back on stage. I was at both Toronto Greendale shows way back when and I thought they were very impressive and functional pieces of artwork.

Now looking forward to the August Toronto show later in this summer.
Enjoy the balance of the Euro tour.

Best wishes,
Rob Campbell

See you in Toronto Rob,
May be adding more Greendale songs….

BERT JANSCH

Hi Neil,
I seem to remember a while back that you mentioned that you recorded Bert Jansch’s sets during the Twisted Road tour. Just wondering if you still have then and if there are any plans to release them? It would be great to hear them someday. Earth Records have made a great job of his back catalogue.
Wishing you all the best for the European tour. Sorry to miss you this time around but hopefully you will make it back to Glasgow someday.
Take care,
Hugh

Thanks Hugh
We will take a look when we get back!
