THE BAD SEEDS

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds – Accor Arena, Paris – ARTE Concert

The best concert and music I’ve seen since you. A concert so uplifting from grief. It’s joyful.
Thought it might be inspirational. Hope the new songs are flowing and under the muse.

No one ever writes this, but I love you for everything in my life. Love.

Thanks T Bone!!!

I AM WITH YOU

Hello Neil,

I think I know how you feel, here in Italy we have a post-fascist government and it seems that no one wants to remember how bad time we had during the dictatorship.

No one wants to remember how it was in WAR time and Italy was destroyed by bombs.
I don’t know what more to do than let them know that “I’m not marching anymore.”

Here is my declaration of conscientious objection to war and its preparations:
–
To the President of the Republic, Chief of the Armed Forces
To the Prime Minister
To the Minister of Defense
To the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army

I hereby formally declare my conscientious objection to war and its preparations.
I am in no way available for any “call to arms.”
–
Now I can take my guitar and sing your songs. This is one of the things that always made me feel better.

Love
Luciano

I am with you!

NORTH STAR

Heya, Neil!

Super huge thanks for sharing my NORTH STAR letter recently and leaving in the link to my song “Cheap Champagne.” I’m tickled flamingo pink that ya did that and honestly I’m blown away AND stunned sideways that there was anybody listening! Super coolie-cool, cool, cool! Hat tip 🤠

I hope that your recording of your new songs are making you happy and are bringing you as much joy as you’ve given me over the years. Music is life AND love, man.

Say, in the Greedy Hand merch store I was hopin’ maybe you could see about getting in some more girly tank/halter tops for us motorcycle mamas out here. I’m talkin’ the Harley-style ladies tanks that are usually black, and trimmed with just a touch of lace in realistic WOMEN’S sizes that—for the love of gawd—are LONG enough to tuck into our jeans or leggings so there’s no surprises on the road or if we’re dancing around. Those types of tops are flattering for the GIRLS ( * ) ( * ) if ya catch my drift. 🫢🤣 They look cute under flannels which I wear all the time. I myself am tall and chesty and need at least an XL. Would LUV to see a Tonight’s the Night image of you reissued on one of those groovy ladies’ tanks. Put the classic tour dates on the back, it would be rad, or a retro proclamation of “Disco Sucks.” Ha. The end of an error.

Lastly, for those of us with guitar cases and/or rigs … how’s about FINALLY issuing those dang LIVE MUSIC IS BETTER bumper stickers in a durable material that isn’t freaking paper. Many moons ago, I got in a bidding war with someone from Belgium for an OG paper sticker that came in the Hawks and Doves album, stuck it on my car and it faded and died right quick in the Southern California drought that finally ended—and then died a miserable death as it faded in the sun. Stupidest 50 bucks I ever spent. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Make ’em a durable colorful plastic this time.

In a similar vein, I really loved my “Be the Rain” white bumper sticker with the green trees in the background. I think I pissed off all of San Diego with that sticker with my driving to and from the hospital and angry drivers on the freeway wanting me to BE in another LANE. Yuk-yuk-yuk. Wish you’d bring that one back in white, I’d stick it on my old Mazda.

Well, if you’re reading this in “Letters to Neil” then I got it in under the wire for my free month membership on NYA which I have thoroughly enjoyed. [EDIT] I am doing this NOW through Customer Support since I joined Feb 13th Heavy sigh DID you know that unless you have one of the paid tiers of memberships (or a temporary month for free) you CAN’T be contacted in the Letters to Neil? I know cuz I tried. Broke-ass musician, retired nurse for health reasons. Bad back. Rheumatoid arthritis since I was 20. Thankfully I can still play guitar and walk and stand and do all that other groovy stuff, but between that and pancreatic insufficiency, those were the cards that I was dealt. No one else in my family had that, I guess I was just lucky.

Anyway, Neil I’m sad because I probably won’t be talking to you again anytime soon, but I’ll be listening, and writing and playing out here in the Wilds of Northeast Wisconsin or wherever the wind blows me next.

Take care, and thanks again for all you do!

Your latter day hiput what i havearren

TIME FADES AWAY

Hey Neil,

I know time fades away.

But when are you going to expose the real guitar in you and scrape that black paint off old black and show the world what a gold top looks like pull back the curtain its real.

What a weird proposition I have just put to you.

One last request: did you really wipe the vocals off the Long May You Run sessions of David and Graham completely or is there some tunes left intact.

Surely not wasted or thrown out?? Or was Through My Sails all you got left.

I have another question when you do an archive release you must leave some stuff off as probably too much at once to release.

Would you reconsider what you left behind and maybe see some relevance in some recordings you left off the archive release?

The fondest wishes

Keep recording 8 tunes done your a machine only chrome players on these latest recordings who’s producing??

WRITING SONGS!

Dear Neil,

So happy to hear that you’re writing again. I hope it feels healthy, happy, and peaceful.

I couldn’t agree more with your sentiment about the depressing and sad state of politics and world affairs these days. But you’ve been on the front lines for us for a long time. I hope you realize that because of you, so many of us are inspired to practice activism for the environment, human rights, and the general welfare of all living things. I went back to school recently and got a degree in Conservation Biology, in no small part due to feeling the familiar call through your messages that urges us to leave this planet better than we found it. I hope that we can soon figure out a way to do that.

All that to say, your legacy extends beyond music, but it will always live through it. Thank you for being a guide and leading by example.

Very much looking forward to hearing new music when it’s ready!

Peace + Love,
Kaleen

A NEW DIGS

Hi Neil, Daryl and all at NYA,

I finally found a new digs not 2 miles from The Hill. Anyone for Polo?

I gifted my friend Randy NYA. He’s stoked, and I’m giving him some pointers as I write. He is wondering about the MIDI setup for my Windows machine.

Anyway, the world is so crazy right now I can hardly think.

Hope you are doing well.
Catch up in a bit. Roll on …

Peace, Love and Music!

STUDIO QUESTIONS

I have a couple studio questions. We all know asking two questions can be risky ; )

Other than having songs, band, studio and your team together, do you ever set any kind of creative rule or restriction about how an album is made just to mix things up? For example, I recently read that Peter Gabriel deliberately didn’t use any cymbals on an album of his.

no rules or restrictions

2. Do you have any sort of setup where you can record yourself with no staff around (outside of phones & iPads)? Did you have that at Broken Arrow? Tim Mulligan’s name seems to be on nearly everything from there outside of Will To Love and a couple others.

Many thanks,
Tom
