Neil,
The outtake of Boxcar from 1990 is a gem. Great sound!

*Drake the one coming on NYA V4 is the best one I think.

LONG WALK HOME
Hi Neil,
Stefano’s letter which you published last week about the early 1970 double album concept raises an interesting question about Long Walk Home.
Your track list for that untitled double album, a candidate to follow on from Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, is actually illustrated in the AV1 book (p.122). It lists Long Walk Home for Side 4. There is, however, no known listing anywhere of an actual recording of Long Walk Home around that time, certainly not before it turns up as Letter From ‘Nam in November 1972 (released with AV1 on Everybody’s Alone).
If Long Walk Home got as far as a track listing for an album back in 1970, surely it must have been recorded around that time? I somehow doubt you will put Stefano’s whole lost double album together anytime soon, but is a 1969/1970 version of Long Walk Home something you might be able to share with us just ‘for the record’ as an NYA Outtake?
I am also curious to know what the lyrics were that early on in its development. It is such a relevant song these days:
America, America
Where have we gone?
Good question.

LONG WALK HOME was originally on Goldrush, probably that’s the one with the title ‘Letter from Nam’
Another one was recorded later in 72 – solo in the studio….…
Lyrics were different on many versions.

Will more Timeline Concerts be released? It’s a favorite NYA feature of mine and nothing new has been added since January. A show like Berkeley 1976 with Crazy Horse would be a great choice.
Thanks for everything,

Hi big guy,
Can you include Ambulance Blues and Cowgirl as additional songs on NYA for the new live album? Seem like they were integral to the tour.

Hi Neil, Hope all is well, I would like to know what gauge strings you use on your acoustics, and do you use the same gauge/brand for all of your acoustics, throughout your career?
Thanks –
Vinnie

Various gauges.

Dear Neil,
First and foremost, I want to thank you so much for the incredible concert in Bergen last summer. It was magical to bring my two children to their first ever concert, and to have it be with you.
It was a bittersweet and deeply moving experience on so many levels, after many concerts since I first saw you with the magnificent Crazy Horse back in 1996.
That we were treated to a nearly 15-minute monumental Cortez the Killer as the finale was more than I could have ever dreamed of.
On that note, I’m wondering whether that is the version featured on the new live album “As Time Explodes,” which I have already ordered—and also whether there are any plans for a concert documentary from the European tour at some point?
Wishing you all the best, and hoping to see you on Norwegian soil again.
Thank you,
Stian

That version is on the live recording.

Hey Neil,
Can you ask the team to put up one of the HORDE Festival shows? My very first time seeing you was August 21st, 1997. I was only nine years old, my parents took me. I remember a great version of Southern Man acoustic and Cortez!
We will check for those shows.

Hi Neil,
and hope all’s well.
I’m still dreaming of a CSNY Human Highway record.
Maybe not THE Human Highway record but A Human Highway record.
The tracks are all there.
As is the vocal blend.
Here’s hoping.

Thanks Ken

Hey Neil,
Thanks for continuing to follow your muse and to keep recording NEW music. It is a gift, and it is a gift to get all of the archival music as well. We all have so much so listen to and go back to for the rest of our lives. I can’t wait for NYA V4, it will contain my favorite years of your work, the late ’80s and ’90s, when I really got into your music.
My question, I bet it has been asked before … what is your favorite era of your music, or your favorite album overall that you have put out??
thanks!!

Hi Neil,
I learned this weekend (in the comments section from a NYT article about travel in Santa Cruz, of all places), that the Catalyst may be demolished and replaced with an apartment building. Obviously, Santa Cruz, like everywhere else in CA, is in dire need of more affordable housing, but it would sure be a shame to lose such a historic venue like the Catalyst. I never had the pleasure of seeing one of your many legendary performances there, but I saw others, including CSN during a benefit for the victims of the Loma Prieta earthquake that was also the night the Berlin Wall fell and Croz announced it from the stage. Anyway, maybe you could put in a word with the developers and try to sway them to keep the venue, even if it needs renovation?

Did not know that. The fIrst Catalyst was already demolished I think. NOW THIS ONE….

Hi Neil,
Longtime fan, first-time writer. Played my girlfriend “Will to Love” the night I asked her to marry me. Thanks for taking me along for the ride as you followed your muse.
A while back you took aim on all the “bootleg” releases of your music, reined them in, and released a lot of new, official music for us, and of better quality than the boots.
Can you PLEASE do the same for Buffalo Springfield? A simple search on the record collector site Discogs.com results in no less than 19 DIFFERENT bootleg albums and CDs of Buffalo Springfield music, outtakes, and live recordings. As the main guardian of Buffalo Springfield’s recorded heritage (along maybe with Richie), I BEG you to rein this stuff in and get control of it. I love to “Smell the Horse”, but I love the Springfield too. We gotta “Protect the Buffalo”!
