The star we are following is slowing down
Over a flock of sea-birds that shriek like they’re having sex
There’s an old barn circled by muddy animals – they seem to expect us
We follow the quiet beasts into the straw and warm smells
A weary young couple is staring into a feeding box that glows
Is there a child in this gray wood cradle? We peer over the edge
And behold! We are deep in the sky and there is the Earth
In her majestic slow motion, blue and white and beautiful,
The spinning wet rock is flowing with newborns
In waves and wind are living beings rising, laughing, amazed to have wings
Running like cheetahs and somersaulting like dolphins and…. And….
We sink to our knees in wonder before the miracle of this world
How does this happen? This burst of life that we have seen
Life is leading us to more and more life and that is all…
We come bearing gifts. Is there a new king to give our money and jewels?
The young couple and the animals – they gaze at us with the same thoughtful eyes
All the eyes in the barn and on the hillsides reflect the one shining thought
This Earth, this Earth… She gives us everything we have
We will give her everything we have
We Three
Kings
We Three Kings
