In the early 1970s, my older brother got an 8-track player and the tape “Harvest.” He played it every night, all night long, and all of us kids could hear it. It’s burned into our memories, and we have all been lifelong Neil Young fans.
Fast forward a few years, and I was a young woman of the world with my first nice car, and it had a cassette deck!! My first cassette purchase was “Comes a Time,” and I wore it out.
More years passed, and college, a career, and a family happened, leaving less time for just listening to music, but I could watch it on MTV — Neil Young Unplugged became a favorite, and then I was listening to CDs.
As I got older, there was more and more. I got an iPod, then a smartphone. I could listen to Neil Young all the time, from iTunes purchases to streaming Neil Young radio on Pandora and Spotify. (Somehow missed Pono, sorry Neil!) A couple of years ago, I bought a record player and the first album I bought on vinyl was “Harvest,”
Now I’ve come full circle. I have close to 40 of your albums, ranging from a $2 thrift store find to the expensive, hard-to-find “Chrome Dreams II.”
Neil, I’ve been loving you and your music for 50 years, across all of life’s circumstances and all types of media. I hope to enjoy many years more!
It’s been a great journey.
