Here is the riddle of our time: “Why do we refuse to save ourselves from the burning of fossil fuels?”
I believe I have found a clue. In the trains we ride there are advertisements, the smiling faces of sexually available people. They could be the lovely intriguing commuters sitting right next to us, gazing at their phones. The bold crossing over to the new beautiful stranger is removed from us. We tap the dating service into our devices.
The reader might ask, “What does this have to do with Climate Change?” Well, this kind of intimate intervention takes place thousands of times a day. Love, our strongest emotion, becomes trivialized, and that distorts our basic self. It radically weakens us.
It’s hard to overstate the importance of this loss. You remove the revolution from Love to make it a consumer transaction. The change by the general public that it would take to stop poisoning the Earth – it can only come from Love.
“Love defies laws. Love is the moulder of destiny.” —— Emma Goldman
The true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of Love. —— Che Guevara
The Earth presides over the 8 billion of us with this deep magnetism in our bodies. We love each other so much… The Earth moves among us, helping us with our ecstatic love, our music, our giving over to each other. The Earth’s big gift! Our body and soul gets all we need for Love and springtime flowers, too.
And we all know this. We feel the power, the change, in what the Earth has given us. But we are dulled and muted by the barrage of products, the “shock exhaustion”, the corruption of conventional politics. None of this could stop us from saving ourselves, if we find our Love.
Finding our personal Love is like letting ourselves fill with the Earth’s floods and fires. The Earth’s Love is fighting for the survival of life. We will find the Earth’s Love and Love Earth with this powerful gift.
Earthalujah!
