Project 2025 is no longer just a plan. It’s now part of Trump’s and the Republican’s roadmap that is being implemented. With so many obvious illegalities and legal challenges now in the courts, we must pause to enable the judicial system to catch up with the Project 2025 attack that has been planned for years and is now proceeding at breakneck speed. The courts need time.
We must pause to prevent further illegal actions that are coming. It’s now up to us as freedom-loving Americans to support this pause to the carnage that’s eroding our democracy, isolating us from our allies, and moving us towards a dictatorship.
The best option is to let the government shut down by not supporting the Congressional Republicans’ plans.
Here are the steps we can do to maximize our impact while minimizing risk to our fellow citizens:
Don’t go along with the Republicans Project 2025 plan – The Republicans are the majority party, and they are supporting Project 2025 through their plans and funding. Democrats and Independents in Congress must stop this from happening, and the only way to do that, is not to vote for the continuing resolution. The Republican party refuses to negotiate funding, so it’s their budget and plan – they own it. They have the majority and can pass it without anyone else, so let them try, but we hope there are enough Republicans who will join in protesting the Project 2025 plan and vote no.
Develop a strong communication plan that everyone can share – Talk about why the Democrats and Independents are voting against Project 2025. By voting against the Republican majority’s funding plans, they are voting for the American people and against the implementation of Project 2025.
All the current moves and Executive orders are part of the Project 2025 plan, devised over the last decade to take away our freedom and make us powerless. While Trump denied any knowledge of Project 2025 during his election campaign because it was so unpopular, it’s now clear to all that he was lying as he rapidly implements it with the support of Congress, including its illegal and unconstitutional laws
Call our representatives and tell them to defend our Democracy. Voting against the Republican plans will prevent Trump and Congress from taking actions that undermine our elections, politicize our justice system, attack our free press, and destroy our democratic institutions.
Support legal organizations (i.e. ACLU) that take these issues to the courts Let the courts do their work before Trump’s illegal plans are implemented by this Congress
Control the Narrative – Make Trump and Congress Responsible. Support the shutdown with a professionally run, well-funded, public campaign with the very clear goal of stopping Project 2025. Use media appearances, social media, rallies, and grassroots mobilization to ensure that the public sees Trump, Congress, and his Project 2025 as the reason for government dysfunction.
Ensure Essential Services Stay Open. This must be a targeted shutdown strategy that minimizes harm to the public while maximizing political pressure.
Keep vital programs threatened by Project 2025 funded. Pass temporary funding for essential services like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans’ benefits.
Focus on high-profile disruptions. Defund controversial and illegal executive orders, pause government subsidies that benefit Trump Oligarchs, and block enforcement of harmful immigration policies, by remaking them into well though-out and fair programs.
Use states to fill the gap: Encourage Democratic American governors to step in and help mitigate the impact of federal disruptions, showing leadership while highlighting the Republican government’s dysfunction.
Use the Shutdown to Win Public Support. Public perception is crucial. Americans must make sure everyone understands why the shutdown is happening and how it benefits them.
Begin a regular daily ‘VOICE of DEMOCRACY’ in online and mainstream media, presenting American democratic views and pointing out the flaws of project 2025 for American Democracy. Organize nationwide activities such as townhalls, boycotts, to explain what is really at stake. Use viral messaging and social media campaigns to show how a government shutdown at this time will protect working-class Americans from losing their legal rights.
By strongly controlling this message, Americans must turn the shutdown into a rallying cry. It is not a liability. It is a way of saving American Democracy.
Have a Clear Endgame and Path to Victory. Americans must understand what success looks like and have a path to reopening the government under their terms.
• Set Non-Negotiable Demands: Clearly outline what must happen before Americans agree to reopen the government.
• Make it a Legislative Battle. Keep pushing votes on bipartisan bills to show they actively work while Trump tries to obstruct progress.
• Declare Victory. Once key demands are met, Americans should rally to end the shutdown. On their terms, emphasizing that they have successfully forced Trump’s hand.
• Americans must constantly highlight Trump’s playbook: Project 2025 that is so unpopular with the public.
Nobody wants the government to shut down, because it will cause pain for many people. And let’s be clear, IF the government shuts down, it’s clearly the fault of the Republicans. They are the party in power – the Presidency, House and Senate. Their plans are so extreme that even some in their own party can’t support them.
We should NOT let the Republicans move forward with their extreme agenda that Americans do not want – make them come to the table and negotiate like a functioning government does. We know that isn’t likely but it’s critical the Democrats do not give in and do not vote against what their voters want.
There are risks to a government shutdown, but there are also some benefits. A shutdown will protect our economy by halting illegal new tariffs and tax cuts for the rich that Congress is poised to pass. This government shutdown will resonate with a broad coalition of Americans in both parties and take the narrative away from Trump.
Considering what Trump has already done in just 6 weeks, this is the best opportunity we Americans have to halt the reckless damage that’s being unleashed and finally fight back against Trump’s Project 2025.
